What do you love most about your gym?
We love our ability to pack a ton of quality climbing and variety into such a small space. Due to environmental restrictions in our area we had to keep our building footprint small, and due to height restrictions had to dig down below ground to get extra height for our climbing walls. We managed to fit: “the pit” for our top roping and lead climbing, an entry level slab wall, and bouldering upstairs, as well as a yoga studio, cardio and fitness equipment, a sauna, and a coffee shop. While the vast majority of members are climbing, we have had several people who are just interested in the yoga or using the gym equipment or the sauna. It’s great to see how many different types of people are psyched on our gym opening.
What is your gym’s philosophy?
Blue Granite’s mission statement is to provide a place for community members to recreate, socialize, and foster long-lasting climbing partnerships and friendships. We provide a safe place for local youth to participate in fun and healthy activities. The gym provides programs for local families to interact and engage in an active lifestyle together.
How would you describe your gym?
Friendly and welcoming to everyone! We are so stoked to see people of all different ability levels and with so many different interests coming together and creating a tight-knit community. From kids birthday parties to advanced climbing training classes, we try our best to balance everyone’s needs and provide something for everyone.
What is your gym’s approach to route setting?
We have a great group of routesetter who work really well together, complement each other’s styles, and challenge each other to try new things. Our routes are fun and accessible, while still keeping lots of variety and difficulty. Our members range from first-time climbers to hard-core Tahoe climbers that have been waiting for a gym to open for years. Our setters do an awesome job of finding unique ways to inspire and challenge everyone.
